The production of N ∗ (1400) isobar in the reaction pp → pN ∗+ (1400), where N ∗ (1400) → n π + and p π 0 , is investigated with the aid of one-pion exchange model. The one-pion exchange mechanism does not seem to dominate the production process. The isospin of N ∗ (1400) is found to be I = 1 2 , and the elasticity of the resonance is estimated to be 0.66.

The reactions pp → NN π are studied at 19 GeV/ c and analysed in terms of the amplitudes with the low mass N π system in isospin states 1 2 and 3 2 respectively. The I − 1 2 cross section is compared with the corresponding one in π p→ ππ N at 8 GeV/ c .

An experiment designed to study the π−p total neutral cross section and its breakdown into several channels has been performed at eleven incident pion momenta ranging from 654 to 1247 MeV/c. Angular distributions for the charge exchange π0 and for η0 production are given in terms of Legendre-polynomial expansion coefficients. Forward and backward differential cross sections are presented for the charge-exchange channel and comparisons with recent dispersion-relation predictions for the forward cross section are made.

The charge excharge reaction K − p → K 0 n has been studied in a event/μb exposure of the CERN 2m hydrogen bubble chamber to a 3.95 GeV/ c K − beam. The differential cross section d σ /d t exhibits a change of slope at −1 ≈ 0.8 GeV 2 .

Final states with a Ξ− hyperon have been studied in 5.5-GeV/c K−p interactions. Center-of-mass production angular distributions for the Ξ− have a peak in the beam direction, while those for the K+ or K0 meson peak in the opposite direction. Approximately half of the observed events involve the Ξ*(1530) or K*(890) resonances. The four- and five-body final states show production of the Ξ*(1930) in the Ξ−π+,0 mass spectrum and a narrow peak at 2295 MeV in the Ξ−π+π− mass spectrum. The mass of the Ξ− hyperon is 1321.9±0.5 MeV as determined from 195 Ξ− decays with a visible Λ decay, assuming a Λ-hyperon mass of 1115.58 MeV.

Differential cross sections and polarizations have been measured for the reaction π − p → K 0 Λ and π − p → K 0 Σ 0 at 3.9 GeV/ c π − momentum. Comparison of these data with those of the related reactions K − n → π − Λ and K − p → π − Σ + (at approximately the same c.m. energy) indicate that simple Regge-pole models involving only K ∗ (890) and K ∗ (1420) exchange are unable to describe all the features of the data. On the other hand, comparison of the π − p → K 0 Σ 0 data with that of π + p → K + Σ + shows that the data are consistent with absence of exotic strange-meson exchange.

We present an analysis of the K ππ system produced in 10 GeV/ c K + p interactions. We show that the low-mass enchancement between 1.2 and 1.4 GeV/ c 2 on the K ππ mass spectrum is predominantly 1 + throughout, give the relative amplitudes for the decay of this system into K ∗ (890) π and K ρ , and offer new evidence for the presence of two 1 + resonances in this mass region.
