The ratio of the yields of antiprotons to protons in pp collisions has been measured by the ALICE experiment at $\sqrt{s} = 0.9$ and $7$ TeV during the initial running periods of the Large Hadron Collider(LHC). The measurement covers the transverse momentum interval $0.45 < p_{\rm{t}} < 1.05$ GeV/$c$ and rapidity $|y| < 0.5$. The ratio is measured to be $R_{|y| < 0.5} = 0.957 \pm 0.006 (stat.) \pm 0.014 (syst.)$ at $0.9$ TeV and $R_{|y| < 0.5} = 0.991 \pm 0.005 (stat.) \pm 0.014 (syst.)$ at $7$ TeV and it is independent of both rapidity and transverse momentum. The results are consistent with the conventional model of baryon-number transport and set stringent limits on any additional contributions to baryon-number transfer over very large rapidity intervals in pp collisions.

Inclusive Charm Cross-Sections in 800-GeV/c p p Interactions

Phys.Lett.B 183 (1987) 110, 1987.
Inspire Record 233423 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42573

We report a measurement of the inclusive D/D̄ production cross section in 800 GeV/ c proton-proton interactions. The experiment used the high resolution bubble chamber LEBC exposed to an 800 GeV/ c proton beam at the Fermilab MPS. We obtain σ( D/ D ̄ )=59 −15 +22 μ b (statistical errors), having analysed 25% of the total data sample. Comparison with 400 GeV/ c pp dat a obtained with LEBC at CERN shows a D/D̄ cross section increase by a factor of 1.7 −0.5 +0.7 . This is in good agreement with fusion model calculations.

Precise Measurements of Proton - Anti-proton and Proton Proton Total Cross-sections at the {CERN} Intersecting Storage Rings

Inspire Record 207680 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33833

A detailed account is given of high-precision measurements of the total hadronic cross sections of proton-antiproton and proton-proton interactions at centre-of-mass energies of 30.6, 52.8 and 62.7 GeV. The experiment was performed at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR) using the total interaction-rate method, in which additive correction terms for trigger losses were held to less than 6% of the final result. An experimental determination of the vertical beam-displacement scale permitted luminosity-monitor calibrations to be made with high intrinsic accuracy. The overall precision (systematic and statistical errors combined) achieved in the total cross sections was ± 1.1% for proton-antiproton reactions and 0.7% for proton-proton reactions. In the proton-proton case the measurement was the most precise such measurement made at the ISR.

Charged Multiplicity Distribution in p p Interactions at ISR Energies

The multiplicities of charged secondaries in proton-proton collisions were determined using the split-field-magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR). Measurements are presented on multiplicity distributions both for inelastic and non-single-diffractive events at four different energies s=30.4, 44.5, 52.6, and 62.2 GeV. The results reported here represent the first high-statistics measurement of charged multiplicity distributions at ISR energies with a magnetic detector covering nearly the full solid angle.

The Dominance of Jets at Large Transverse Energy in a Full Azimuth Hadron Calorimeter at {ISR} Energies

Events with a large transverse energy in a calorimeter with full azimuthal coverage and | y | < 0.9 have been investigated in pp collisions at √ s = 30, 45, and 63 GeV. A striking change in the event structure, corresponding to a clear emergence of high- p T jets, is observed at √ s = 63 and 45 GeV in the region between 25 and 35 GeV in transverse energy. At √ s = 30 GeV, the data extend to E T ∼ 20 GeV, but no such change in the event structure is observed.

A Detailed Study of Average Charged Particle Multiplicity Versus Available Energy and Invariant Mass at Different $\sqrt{s}$ in $p p$ Interactions

By using (pp) interactions at three different c.m. energies,\(\left( {\sqrt 8 } \right)_{pp} \)=30, 44, 62 GeV, it is shown that the average charged-particle multiplicity <nch>vs. the invariant mass of the hadronic systemm1,2 has the same behaviour as it hasvs. 2Ehad. Moreover, in both cases <nch> is shown to be nearly independent of\(\left( {\sqrt 8 } \right)_{pp} \) and in good agreement with the average charged-particle multiplicity measured in the (e+e−) annihilation.

Measurement of $\bar{p}p$ Elastic Scattering at $\sqrt{s}=52.8$-{GeV} at the {CERN} Intersecting Storage Rings

The small-angle elastic scattering for pp at s=23.5, 30.7, and 52.8 GeV and for p¯p at s=52.8 GeV are measured. The data are normalized on Coulomb scattering. Using the optical theorem and the best estimate of the real part of the forward scattering amplitude, ρ(pp¯)=0.1, we obtain σtot(p¯p)=44.1±2.9 mb for the total cross section and b(p¯p)=13.6±2.2 GeV−2 for the nuclear slope parameter. This supports the dispersion relation prediction that σtot(p¯p) will start to rise above Elab≈200 GeV.

Charged Particle Multiplicities in ($p p$) Interactions and Comparison With ($e^+ e^-$) Data

Nuovo Cim.A 65 (1981) 400, 1981.

By using three different c.m. energies in pp interactions,\(\sqrt s \), 44, 62 GeV, it is shown that the average charged-particle multiplicity <nch> sclaes with\(\sqrt s \) once the correct hadronic energy available for multiparticle production,Ehad, is used as basic parameter. The pp data, analysed in this way, are compared with e+e− data at equivalent energies. The agreement is very satisfactory.

The Energy Dependence of Charged Particle Multiplicity in $p p$ Interactions

Phys.Lett.B 95 (1980) 311-312, 1980.

The average charged multiplicity in proton-proton interactions has been studied at √ s = 62 GeV. A very good agreement with the average charged multiplicity measured in e + e − annihilation at different energies is obtained by redefining, in p-p, the correct energies available for particle production. This means that a p-p collision at √ s = 62 GeV does in fact correspond to a large range of effective hadronic energies available for particle production.
