The reactionsπ−p→K0(890) Λ,K0(890)Σ0 andK0(890)Σ0 are studied at an incident momentum of 3.95 GeV/c using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment corresponding to ∼90 events/μb. The differential cross sections, density matrix elements of the vector meson and hyperon polarizations are presented. A transversity amplitude analysis is performed for each of the reactions. The results are compared with those obtained for the SU(3) related processesK−p→ϕΔ, ϕΣ0, ϕΣ0(1385) andϱ−Σ+(1385) and with predictions of the additive quark model and SU(6) sum rules.

Results are presented for the quasi two-body hypercharge exchange reactions of the type using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment. Total and differential cross sections and the momentum transfer dependence of the meson and hyperon resonance single density matrix elements are discussed. In a high statistics (90 events/μb) bubble chamber experiment, the reactions π − p→K s 0 K ± π ∓ n have been studied at 3.95 GeV/ c . A significant enhancement is observed in the ( K K π) system which we attribute to the production of the E(1420) meson. For its mass, M , and width, Λ, we find M =1426±6 MeV and Γ =40±15 MeV. The E(1420) quantum numbers are determined to be I G J P =0 + 1 + with a branching ratio E → K ∗ K + c.c E →[δπ+( K ∗ K + c.c. )]=0.86±0.12 , where δ→ K K . The cross section for the reaction π − p→En, with E→K 0 K ± π ± , is 8.2±1.0 μ b. Forward and backward productions are observed in the approximate ratio 2:1. The SU(3) assignment of the E(1420) meson is discussed.

The Fermilab hybrid 30-in. bubble-chamber spectrometer was exposed to a tagged 147-GeV/c positive beam containing π+, K+, and p. A sample of 3003 K+p, 19410 pp, and 20745 π+p interactions is used to derive σn, 〈n〉, f2cc, and 〈nc〉D for each beam particle. These values are compared to values obtained at other, mostly lower, beam momenta. The overall dependence of 〈n〉 on Ea, the available center-of-mass energy, for these three reactions as well as π−p and pp interactions has been determined.

Inclusive and semi-inclusive ρ 0 production are studied in 205 GeV/ c pp interactions. The number of ρ 0 per inelastic event is 0.33 ± 0.06, so that (13 ± 2)% of the π − are products of ϱ 0 decay. The ρ 0 are found to be produced mainly near y = 0 and tend to have larger average transverse momentum than do pions.

The relative production yields and transverse mass spectra for Λ, Λ , Ξ − and Ξ + hyperons in proton-tungsten interactions are presented and compared with the WA85 results from central sulphur-tungsten interactions. A study of the negative particle yield has also been undertaken and the ratio of Λ hyperons to negative particles has been calculated.

Absolute inclusive cross sections for\(\bar pp\) interactions at 7.3 GeV/c are given. The data cover prong cross sections,V0, γ production and inclusive charged particle (p/π) production. Separation has been made into annihilation and non-annihilation components. ANNIHILATION AND NON-ANNIHILATION TOPOLOGICAL CROSS SECTIONS.
The reaction π − + p → π − + π − + π + + p at 25 GeV/ c was studied in the mass region M 3 π ⩾ 1.8 GeV with leading π + . The mass spectrum of the π + π − system shows peaks corresponding to the ϱ 0 , f and g 0 resonances and an enhancement around 1.9 GeV. Evidence is presented for a J P = 3 + s-wave g 0 π − state (A 4 ) similar to the ϱ 0 π − (A 1 ) and fπ − (A 3 ) threshold enhancements.

An enhancement in the (K − π + ) mass distribution at 1871 ± 10 MeV with full width of 285 ± 40 MeV is observed in the charge-exchange reaction K − p → K − π + n at 10 and 16 GeV/ c . The energy dependence of its cross section, the shape of the differential cross section d σ /d t and the decay angular distributions are consistent with a production mechanism by pion exchange. No significant enhancement at the same mass is seen in the non-charge exchange reaction K − p → (K π ) − p. The experimental evidence is reviewed and it is suggested that there may be more than one K ∗ enhancement in the 1700–1900 mass region.

We present cross sections for coherent and non-coherent production of one, two and three pions in pd reactions at 19 GeV/ c . The mass distributions of the two pion non-coherent channels are studied. Strong single Δ(1236) and also some double Δ production is observed. Clear evidence for ϱ production is seen.
