The fraction of Z to bbbar events in hadronic Z decays has been measured by the OPAL experiment using the data collected at LEP between 1992 and 1995. The Z to bbbar decays were tagged using displaced secondary vertices, and high momentum electrons and muons. Systematic uncertainties were reduced by measuring the b-tagging efficiency using a double tagging technique. Efficiency correlations between opposite hemispheres of an event are small, and are well understood through comparisons between real and simulated data samples. A value of Rb = 0.2178 +- 0.0011 +- 0.0013 was obtained, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The uncertainty on Rc, the fraction of Z to ccbar events in hadronic Z decays, is not included in the errors. The dependence on Rc is Delta(Rb)/Rb = -0.056*Delta(Rc)/Rc where Delta(Rc) is the deviation of Rc from the value 0.172 predicted by the Standard Model. The result for Rb agrees with the value of 0.2155 +- 0.0003 predicted by the Standard Model.
Second systematic error depends on Rc=Delta(R_c)/R_c ratio, where Delta(R_c) is the deviation of R_c from the value 0.172 predicted by the Standard Model.
The NA44 collaboration has measured charged kaon and pion distributions at midrapidity in sulphur and proton collisions with nuclear targets at 200 and 450 GeV/c per nucleon, respectively. The inverse slopes of kaons are larger than those of pions. The difference in the inverse slopes of pions, kaons and protons, all measured in our spectrometer, increases with system size and is consistent with the buildup of collective flow for larger systems. The target dependence of both the yields and inverse slopes is stronger for the sulphur beam suggesting the increased importance of secondary rescattering for SA reactions. The rapidity density, dN/dy, of both K+ and K- increases more rapidly with system size than for pi+ in a similar rapidity region. This trend continues with increasing centrality, and according to RQMD, it is caused by secondary reactions between mesons and baryons. The K-/K+ ratio falls with increasing system size but more slowly than the pbar/p ratio. The pi-/pi+ ratio is close to unity for all systems. From pBe to SPb the K+/p ratio decreases while K-/pbar increases and ({K+*K-}/{p*pbar})**1/2 stays constant. These data suggest that as larger nuclei collide, the resulting system has a larger transverse expansion, baryon density and an increasing fraction of strange quarks.

This paper presents the first measurement of the inclusive J/Psi production cross section in the forward pseudorapidity region 2.5<|eta|<3.7 in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8TeV. The results are based on 9.8 pb-1 of data collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The inclusive J/Psi cross section for transverse momenta between 1 and 16 GeV/c is compared with theoretical models of charmonium production.
Only statistical errors are shown. Cross section tines branching ratio.
Using the DZero detector at the 1.8 TeV pbarp Fermilab Tevatron collider, we have measured the inclusive dijet mass spectrum in the central pseudorapidity region |eta_jet| < 1.0 for dijet masses greater than 200 Gev/c^2. We have also measured the ratio of spectra sigma(|eta_jet| < 0.5)/sigma(0.5 < |eta_jet| < 1.0). The order alpha_s^3 QCD predictions are in good agreement with the data and we rule out models of quark compositeness with a contact interaction scale < 2.4 TeV at the 95% confidence level.

We report on a search for second generation leptoquarks (Phi_2) using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 110 pb^{-1} collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We present upper limits on the production cross section as a function of Phi_2 mass, assuming that the leptoquarks are produced in pairs and decay into a muon and a quark with branching ratio beta. Using a Next-to-Leading order QCD calculation, we extract a lower mass limit of M_{\Phi_2} > 202 (160) GeV$/c^{2} at 95% confidence level for scalar leptoquarks with beta=1(0.5).

We have made a precise measurement of the central inclusive jet cross section at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The measurement is based on an integrated luminosity of 92 pb-1 collected at the Fermilab Tevatron pbar-p Collider with the D-Zero detector. The cross section, reported as a function of jet transverse energy (ET >= 60 GeV) in the pseudorapidity interval |eta| <= 0.5, is in good agreement with predictions from next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics.
Inclusive cross section for ABS(ETARAP)<0.5. The quoted systematic (DSYS) errors do not include the luminosity uncertainty of 6.1 PCT.
Inclusive cross section for 0.1<=ABS(ETARAP)<=0.7. Data are taken from the AIP E-PAPS ftp site shown above. The quoted (DSYS) errors are the total systematic errors including the luminosity uncertainty.
The photoproduction reaction gamma p -> mu+ mu- p has been studied in ep interactions using the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 43.2 pb^{-1}. The Upsilon meson has been observed in photoproduction for the first time. The sum of the products of the elastic Upsilon(1S), Upsilon(2S), Upsilon(3S) photoproduction cross sections with their respective branching ratios is determined to be 13.3 +- 6.0(stat.)^{+2.7}_{-2.3}(syst.) pb at a mean photon-proton centre of mass energy of 120 GeV. The cross section is above the prediction of a perturbative QCD model.

A measurement of the proton spin structure function g1p(x,Q^2) in deep-inelastic scattering is presented. The data were taken with the 27.6 GeV longitudinally polarised positron beam at HERA incident on a longitudinally polarised pure hydrogen gas target internal to the storage ring. The kinematic range is 0.021<x<0.85 and 0.8 GeV^2<Q^2<20 GeV^2. The integral Int_{0.021}^{0.85} g1p(x)dx evaluated at Q0^2 of 2.5 GeV^2 is 0.122+/-0.003(stat.)+/-0.010(syst.).
The second systematic errors listed for G1/F1 (G1) are the uncertainties concerning R (R and F2).
G1 evolved at Q2 = 2.5 GeV**2, assuming G1/F1 to be independent of Q2. The second systematic errors listed for are the uncertainties concerning R and F2.
Jet event rates in deep inelastic ep scattering at HERA are investigated applying the modified JADE jet algorithm. The analysis uses data taken with the H1 detector in 1994 and 1995. The data are corrected for detector and hadronization effects and then compared with perturbative QCD predictions using next-to-leading order calculations. The strong coupling constant alpha_S(M_Z^2) is determined evaluating the jet event rates. Values of alpha_S(Q^2) are extracted in four different bins of the negative squared momentum transfer~$\qq$ in the range from 40 GeV2 to 4000 GeV2. A combined fit of the renormalization group equation to these several alpha_S(Q^2) values results in alpha_S(M_Z^2) = 0.117+-0.003(stat)+0.009-0.013(syst)+0.006(jet algorithm).

The flavor asymmetry of the light quark sea of the nucleon is determined in the kinematic range 0.02<x<0.3 and 1 GeV^2<Q^2<10 GeV^2, for the first time from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. The quantity (dbar(x)-ubar(x))/(u(x)-d(x)) is derived from a relationship between the yields of positive and negative pions from unpolarized hydrogen and deuterium targets. The flavor asymmetry dbar-ubar is found to be non-zero and x dependent, showing an excess of dbar over ubar quarks in the proton.
The ratio of parton distribution functions (PDF) is determined from the ratio of the differencies between charged pion yields for proton and neutron targets: (N_p(pi-)-N_n(pi-))/(N_p(pi+)-N_n(pi+)).
