The first measurements of spin-rotation in meson-baryon scattering in the resonance region are presented. These measurements, for the reaction π − p → K 0 Λ , confirm the main predictions of a previous partial-wave analysis. Comments are made on resonant couplings in the reaction π − p → K 0 Λ .

POLARIZATION MEASUREMENTS FROM THIS EXPERIMENT ALONE.
COMBINED WITH DATA FROM BAKER ET AL., AND SAXON ET AL., (SEE COMMENTS).
Results onK0 and Λ production ine+e− annihilation at c.m. energies of 14, 22 and 34 GeV are presented. The shape of theK0 and Λ differential cross sections are very similar to each other and to those of π±,K± and\(p(\bar p)\). Scaling violations are observed forK0 production. We obtain a value for the probability to produce strange quark-antiquark pairs relative to that to produce up or down quark-antiquark pairs of 0.35±0.02±0.05. The value ofRh=σ(e+e-→hX)/σµµ is shown to rise steadily with c.m. energy for all particle species. At 34 GeV we find 1.48±0.05K0 and 0.31±0.03 Λ per event. We have searched for possible Λ polarization. The production ofK0's and Λ's in jets is examined as a function ofpT2 and rapidity and compared to that of all charged particles; the yields in two and three jets are also investigated. New data are presented on the reaction π − p→K 0 Λ 0 at 13 incident momenta between 1395 and 2375 MeV/ c . A partial-wave analysis has been performed using these data and previous data at lower momenta. The resulting resonance parameters are in broad agreement with recent πN analyses and with the predictions of SU(6) W × O(3) for the couplings.

TOTAL CROSS SECTIONS DERIVED FROM LEGENDRE POLYNOMIAL FITS TO ANGULAR DISTRIBUTIONS.
LEGENDRE POLYNOMIAL FITS TO D(SIG)/DOMEGA.
In the Standard Model, b quarks produced in e^+e^- annihilation at the Z^0 peak have a large average longitudinal polarization of -0.94. Some fraction of this polarization is expected to be transferred to b-flavored baryons during hadronization. The average longitudinal polarization of weakly decaying b baryons, <P_L^{\Lambda_b}>, is measured in approximately 4.3 million hadronic Z^0 decays collected with the OPAL detector between 1990 and 1995 at LEP. Those b baryons that decay semileptonically and produce a \Lambda baryon are identified through the correlation of the baryon number of the \Lambda and the electric charge of the lepton. In this semileptonic decay, the ratio of the neutrino energy to the lepton energy is a sensitive polarization observable. The neutrino energy is estimated using missing energy measurements. From a fit to the distribution of this ratio, the value <P_L^{\Lambda_b}> = -0.56^{+0.20}_{-0.13} +/- 0.09 is obtained, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic.

We have measured the cross section, the angular distribution, and the Λ polarization for the reaction π−p→ΛK0. A spark-chamber spectrometer was used to collect 8400 ΛK0 events at fourteen beam momenta near ΣK threshold. Our data do not show the prominent cross-section enhancement suggested by some previous experiments. However, detailed structure in the cross section and the angular distribution agrees well with a simple model which includes a cusp effect at ΣK threshold.

BACKWARD-FORWARD PRODUCTION ASYMMETRY.
AVERAGE LAMBDA POLARIZATION.
We have used an optical spark-chamber spectrometer to perform a systematic study of the reaction π−p→ΛK0 at beam momenta between 930 and 1130 MeV/c. The cross section, angular distribution, and Λ polarization have been measured. We present our complete data from a sample of 11 400 events along with Legendre polynomial coefficients for the angular distributions. No striking cross-section enhancement at ΣK threshold is observed, but there is evidence for a small cusp effect. A simple model which takes account of the ΣK channel provides a good fit to our data.

The transverse polarization of $\Lambda$ and $\bar\Lambda$ hyperons produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is measured. The analysis uses 760 $\mu$b$^{-1}$ of minimum bias data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in the year 2010. The measured transverse polarization averaged over Feynman $x_{\rm F}$ from $5\times 10^{-5}$ to 0.01 and transverse momentum $p_{\rm T}$ from 0.8 to 15 GeV is $-0.010 \pm 0.005({\rm stat}) \pm 0.004({\rm syst})$ for $\Lambda$ and $0.002 \pm 0.006({\rm stat}) \pm 0.004({\rm syst})$ for $\bar\Lambda$. It is also measured as a function of $x_{\rm F}$ and $p_{\rm T}$, but no significant dependence on these variables is observed. Prior to this measurement, the polarization was measured at fixed-target experiments with center-of-mass energies up to about 40 GeV. The ATLAS results are compatible with the extrapolation of a fit from previous measurements to the $x_{\rm F}$ range covered by this mesurement.

The angular distributions and the differential branching fraction of the decay B0 to K*0(892) mu mu are studied using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.5 inverse femtobarns collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV. From 1430 signal decays, the forward-backward asymmetry of the muons, the K*0(892) longitudinal polarization fraction, and the differential branching fraction are determined as a function of the dimuon invariant mass squared. The measurements are among the most precise to date and are in good agreement with standard model predictions.

The polarization of Σ 0 hyperons produced in an inclusive reactons hasbeen measured for the first time. From a sample of 11 000 events produced by 28.5 GeV/ c ptorons in the reaction p+ Be → Σ 0 +X, the Σ 0 polarization has a value of +0.28±0.13 at p t =1.01 GeV/ c and x f =0.60. The polarization of 53 000 Λ hyperons produced from 28.5 Gev/ c protons inthe reaction p+Be→ Λ +X has been measured in the kinematic range 0.64< p t <1.14 GeV/ c and 0.42< x f <0.62. The average Λ polarization is found to be −0.188±0.024, consistent with previous results.
