The cross section for photoproduction of neutral pions from protons has been measured at energies near 750, 915 and 1150 Mev and over most of the forward-going [...] C.M. hemisphere. The experimental technique consisted of detecting both of the [...] decay photons with lead glass total absorption counters and, when convenient, the recoil proton with a single scintillation counter. The method is subject to rather large systematic errors but, within these, our results are consistent with other experiments wherever there are overlapping points. Our data has the striking feature that the cross section is very small at [...] in the region of the second and third pion nucleon resonances. Also, although the data is not inconsistent with a simple first, second and third resonance model, it appears likely that above the third resonance the pole process consisting of the exchange of a single vector meson is becoming important or even dominant. The evidence at this time mildly suggests that this behaviour is largely due to [...] mesons and under that hypothesis we are able to estimate some [...] meson coupling constants. For example, using a prescription of Gell-Mann and Zachariasen, we estimate the partial width for the decay [...] to be 240 Kev.

Electron-proton elastic scattering cross sections have been measured to determine the proton electromagnetic form factors at squared four-momentum transfers q 2 between 10 and 50 fm −2 . At these values of q 2 we measured angular distributions between 25° and 110° and in addition at 25° and 35° cross sections for q 2 from 2 to 20 fm −2 using the external electron beam of the Bonn 2.5 GeV electron synchrotron. Our results confirm deviations from the scaling law.

The differential cross section has been measured for the reaction γ +p→ π o + p at the Bonn 2.5 GeV electron synchrotron in the energy range from 0.55 to 2.2 GeV at a c.m.angle of 120 degrees.

We have measured the production cross section for K s 0 in e + e − annihilation from 3.6 to 5.0 GeV center of mass energy. A substantial increase of the K s 0 yield is observed around 4 GeV in qualitative agreement with the charm hypothesis.
THE DATA GIVEN HERE AT 9.3 GEV AND ABOVE ARE REPORTED IN C. BERGER ET AL., PL 104B, 79 (1981). THE 12.0 AND 30 GEV DATA WERE TAKEN AT PETRA.

We report on results of η-electroproduction in the resonance region at momentum transfers ofQ2=2 GeV2 and 3 GeV2. The differential cross sections obtained in the region of the second nucleon resonance strongly support the dominance of theS11(1535) in this channel. The total transverse virtual photoproduction cross section of theS11(1535) shows a flatQ2-dependence ∼e−0.39·Q2. Comparison with the total resonant γvp cross section in the second resonance region aroundW=1.5 GeV shows that theD13(1520) production decreases much faster (∼e−1.6·Q2). The data are not compatible with the simple harmonic oscillator quark model with spin and orbit excitation of a quark only.

A study of ϕ-meson photoproduction by partially polarized photons of energy 20–40 GeV is reported. The production mechanism is found to conserves-channel helicity and to proceed via natural-parity exchange in thet channel. In the photoproduction of high-massK+K− states with photons of energy 20–70 GeV, there is evidence for an enhancement at a mass of 1.76 GeV with width 0.08 GeV.

The cross section for the production of π+π− or K+K− pairs in γγ interactions is measured for mππ between 1.7 and 3.5 GeV/c2 and for two intervals of γγ center-of-mass scattering angle. Results are compared with predictions of a QCD model.

The yields and average transverse momenta of pions, kaons, and antiprotons produced at the Fermilab p¯p collider at s=300, 540, 1000, and 1800 GeV are presented and compared with data from the energies reached at the CERN collider. We also present data on the dependence of average transverse momentum 〈pt〉 and particle ratios as a function of charged particle density dNcdη; data for particle densities as high as six times the average value, corresponding to a Bjorken energy density 6 GeV/fm3, are reported. These data are relevant to the search for quark-gluon phase of QCD.

We have measured the differential cross section for the gamma n --> pi- p and gamma p --> pi+ n reactions at center of mass angle of 90 degree in the photon energy range from 1.1 to 5.5 GeV at Jefferson Lab (JLab). The data at photon energies greater than 3.3 GeV exhibit a global scaling behavior for both pi- and pi+ photoproduction, consistent with the constituent counting rule and the existing pi+ photoproduction data. Possible oscillations around the scaling value are suggested by these new data The data show enhancement in the scaled cross section at a center-of-mass energy near 2.2 GeV. The cross section ratio of exclusive pi- to pi+ photoproduction at high energy is consistent with the prediction based on one-hard-gluon-exchange diagrams.
Differential cross section at THETA(CM) = 90 degrees.
