Differential cross sections have been measured for π − p elastic scattering at laboratory momenta in the range 1.2 to 3.0 GeV/ c for the c.m. range 0.97 > cos θ ∗ > −0.98 . The corresponding mass range is 1.78 to 2.56 GeV/ c 2 . The data was obtained from a counter experiment in which the scattered pions and protons were detected in coincidence by arrays of scintillation counters.

We have measured the differential cross section of the reaction π − p→ π − p in the range 0.92 ⩽ cos θ c.m. ⩽ 0.99 at 15 momenta between 0.875 and 1.580 GeV/ c . The results we report complete the available data; previous measurements of this reaction do not extend beyond cos θ c.m. =0.90. We compare our experimental results with dispersion relation predictions. A comparison of our results for B , the slope of the differential cross section, with earlier results shows many discrepancies.

The differential cross sections of the elastic p p reaction have been measured at 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 and 2.6 GeV/ c incident p momentum. The measurements have been performed at the CERN PS using a system of multiwire proportional chambers. The angular region covers scattering angles from 0 to ∼200 mrad. Interference effects between the Coulomb and the nuclear amplitudes are used to derive the ratio of the real to imaginary part of the forward nuclear amplitude. These ratios are compared with theoretical predictions.

The differential cross sections of the combined elastic and break-up K − d reaction have been measured at 1.21, 1.42 and 2.61 GeV/ c incident K − momentum. The measurements have been performed at the CERN PS using multiwire proportional chambers. The values of the invariant momentum transfer t explored (0.0005<| t |<0.1 GeV 2 ) include the Coulomb-nuclear interference region. The differential cross sections have been analysed in the framework of the Glauber impact-parameter formalism. The observed interference effects have been used to derive the ratio of the real to imaginary part of the forward K − n nuclear amplitude.

Elastic and inelastic scattering of 1.044 GeV protons have been studied on isotopically enriched even 40, 42, 44, 48 Ca isotopes and 48 Ti. A spin independent Glauber theory analysis of the elastic scattering allowed the extraction of neutron and nuclear matter densities for these targets.

We report preliminary results on the production of electron-positron pairs in the mass range 2.5 to 4 GeV in 400-GeV p-Be interactions. Production cross sections of the ψ(3100) near x=0 as a function of pt, x, and the decay angle are presented and implications of these new data for single direct leptons are discussed. A ψ′(3700) signal is observed at a level corresponding to σ(ψ′)σ(ψ)=(10±3)%.

Angular distributions for the reactions Zr98(p, π+)Zr91(g.s.) and Pb208(p, π+)Pb209(0.0, 0.78, and 1.41 MeV) at 160 MeV have been measured from 25 to 155 deg using a quadrupole-dipole-dipole-multipole magnetic spectrograph. The Zr90 angular distribution has a shallow minimum at about 80 deg; the Pb208 angular distributions have minima at more forward angles and rise markedly in the backward hemisphere. The (p, π+) cross sections observed in this mass region depend weakly on target mass and angular momentum transfer.
The data for BOR and CA targets are taken from R.E.Pollock et al. BAPS 22, 1006 (1977).
Differential cross sections dσdΩ for the inclusive reaction N14 + p→Z + anything (for 3≤Z≤6) have been measured at six laboratory production angles (θ<5°) for 7.3 GeV nitrogen ions interacting in liquid hydrogen. The angular distributions for C, B, and Be fragments decrease sharply with increasing angle, as expected for this type of peripheral reaction. The corresponding transverse momentum (pt) distributions for these fragments can be represented by Gaussian functions of pt. The Li distribution appears to be non-Gaussian, suggesting one (or more) different production mechanisms. The dependence of the widths of the momentum distributions on fragment mass is not consistent with theoretical predictions, and shows some evidence for an "effective" number of nucleons which determine the fragmentation spectrum of the nitrogen nucleus. Integration of the angular distributions gives partial production cross sections which are consistent with results at higher energy. This energy-independent behavior implies that limiting fragmentation is applicable down to energies of 0.5 GeV/nucleon. Virtual photoproduction of J/ ψ mesons has been measured for 280 GeV muon iron interactions in an iron/scintillator calorimeter target. The J/ψ's were identified by their decay into muon pairs. 315 events were observed, about half of which were elastic. The t , Q 2 and v distributions of these elastic events are presented. The v dependence is measured between 40 and 180 Mev and compared with lower energy photoproduction results. The Q 2 dependence is compared with the predictions of the vector dominance model.
