The elastic scattering of K+ mesons on protons is studied at 3.5 and 5 GeV/c. The total elastic cross-sections are found to be (4.36±0.36) mb and (3.82±0.41) mb respectively. The differential elastic cross-sections, which exhibit characteristic diffraction peaks, are fitted by dσ/dt=(dσ/dt)0eαt, giving α=(3.85±0.12) and (4.70±0.21) (GeV/c)−2 for the two momenta respectively, with |t|⪝0.65 (GeV/c)2. The results are compared to those at neighbouring energies, giving some support to the presence of a real part of the forward scattering amplitude. The diffraction peak shows definite shrinking with increasing momenta. The data are examined in the light of models for high-energy scattering.

The asymmetry A=(dσ⊥−dσ∥)(dσ⊥+dσ∥) of the differential cross section for the reaction γd→π−pp has been studied with linearly polarized photons of 3.0 GeV at squared four-momentum-transfers between 0.15 and 2.0 (GeV/c)2. The asymmetry was found to be positive at −t values below 0.3 (GeV/c)2, dipping to negative values between 0.4 and 0.6 (GeV/c)2, and then rising again to positive values above 0.7 (GeV/c)2.

The reaction K + p → K ∗o (892) Δ ++ (1236) has been studied at 3 GeV/ c in both a hydrogen and a deuterium bubble chamber experiment. Joint decay distributions have been studied in the reaction K + p → K ∗o (1420)Δ ++ at 5.0 GeV/ c in the transversity spin reference frame. Two alternative spin-parity assignments 2 + and 3 − for the K ∗ resonance have been considered and a comparison with the quark-model predictions has been made. The predictions of the quark model are equally well satisfied by the experimental results for both the 2 + and 3 − spin-parity assignments.

In an analysis of the reaction K − n →Λ4π at 3 GeV c we find evidence for the production of the B(1220) resonance, mainly decaying in ωπ. For the mass and width we find (1236 ± 15) MeV c 2 and (132±20) MeV c 2 respectively. The cross section for the reaction K − n→ Λ +B(1220) is found to be (102±26) μ b.

Results are presented on effective-mass distributions, differentisl cross sections and longitudinal c.m. momentum distributions for the channels K − p → K − p π o , K o p π − and K − π + n , obtained from a sample of approximately 28 000 inelastic two-pronged interactions at 4.2 GeV/ c incident momentum. The results are in satisfactory agreement with the prediction of a generalized Veneziano-model corrected for (non-dual) π -and pomeron exchange. For the channel K − pπ o pomeron exchange contributes about 20% of the cross section. In the channel K − π + n the dual, pion and pomeron contributions are responsible for resp. 15%, 65% and 20% of the total cross section.

We present complete results concerning the five reactions K − p → Λω , K − p → Λφ , K − p → Σ 0 ϱ and K − p → Σ 0 φ . The experimental data are well described by exchange mechanisms and the agreement with the SU(3) symmetry predictions is excellent.
FORWARD AND BACKWARD CROSS SECTIONS ARE FOR COS(THETA) > AND < 0. SLOPE DETERMINED FOR -TP = 0.2 TO 1.0.
