Measurements have been made on the ratio of pion-production cross sections at right angles to and along the photon electric-field vector. The positive and negative pions were first momentum-analyzed and counted by means of a counter telescope. Data have been taken at 45, 90, and 135° in the c.m. system, and at proton energies of 225, 330, and 450 MeV. A comparison of the data is made with the dispersion-relation calculation of McKinley.

The polarization of the recoil proton at this energy depends on the interference of the P 33 phase shift with the P 11 and S 11 phase shifts. The measured values indicate the existence of a large P 11 phase shift. The polarization was measured by scattering from carbon blocks in spark chambers using a Vidicon scanner to record the data.

Single π + production on protons by linearly polarized photons of 2.5 to 5 GeV was measured at squared four momentum transfers t between −0.01 and −0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The results show that the differential cross section d σ ⊥ d t with the electric vector of the photon perpendicular to the reaction plane is much larger than d σ ‖ d t with the electric vector parallel to the reaction plane. The predictions of Regge models and of the vector meson dominance model are briefly discussed.

Polarization and differential cross-section data for elastic scattering of negative kaons on polarized protons between 865 and 1330 MeV/ c are presented. Comparisons are made with predictions given by published energy dependent phase-shift analyses. The Legendre expansion coefficients characterizing the polarization distributions show remarkable structures resulting from excitation of Λ- and Σ-resonances. An analysis of the elastic and charge-exchange data in this region of momenta supports the assignments of J P = 3 2 + for the Λ(1870) resonance. The occurence of zero crossings in the polarization data is discussed.

In an energy-independent phase-shift analysis from threshold up to 2.5 GeV/ c , resonant-like as well as non-resonant solutions are found for the P 3 wave. An helicity flip-non-flip decomposition of the partial waves partly supports the indications found in the analyses of other reactions that the pomeron is built up mainly from s -channel helicity non-flip contributions.

We present complete results concerning the five reactions K − p → Λω , K − p → Λφ , K − p → Σ 0 ϱ and K − p → Σ 0 φ . The experimental data are well described by exchange mechanisms and the agreement with the SU(3) symmetry predictions is excellent.
