A study ofW± andZ0 properties has been performed using the UA2 detector at the\(\bar pp\) collider. The data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 142 nb−1 at\(\sqrt s \)=546 GeV, and of 310 nb−1 at\(\sqrt s \)=630 GeV. The experimental results are compared with the predictions of the Standard Model of the unified electroweak theory.

Multiplicity distributions of charged particles for inelastic, non single-diffractive events in proton-antiproton collisions at a centre of mass energy of 540 GeV are presented for various pseudorapidity (Δη) intervals. The widths of the multiplicity distributions, scaled to their means, increase as Δη is made smaller, and the deviation from a Poisson distribution becomes progressively more pronounced. It is found that the data are remarkably well described by a negative binomial distribution. The parameters of the distributions vary smoothly with the size of the acceptance interval.

Using the UA5 detector, the inclusive central production of Ks0 and K± mesons has been measured in non-single-diffractive interactions at the CERN SPS <math altimg="si1.gif"><ovl type="bar" style="s">p</ovl>p</math> Collider at a c.m. energy of 540 GeV. The average transverse momentum is found to be 〈pT〉 = 0.57±0.03 GeV/c in the rapidity range |y|<2.5, which is an increase of about 30% over the top ISR energy. The K/π ratio has increased from about 8% at ISR energies to 9.5±0.9±0.7% (the last error is systematic) at 540 GeV. The average number of Ks0 per non-single-diffractive event is 1.1±0.1 and the inclusive inelastic cross section is estimated at 49±5 mb.

Results of the first experiments with the Neutral Detector at the electron-positron storage ring VEPP-2M are presented. Branching ratios of the ø-meson radiative decays have been measured: B ( ø → ηγ )=(1.30±0.06)%, B ( ø → π 0 γ )=(0.130±0.013)%, their accuracy being several times higher than the world average. The width ratio is Γ(ø→ηγ) Γ(ø→π 0 γ)=(10±1) . Using the abovementioned quantities, the ω − ø mixing angle θ v =(38.3±0.2) ° , as well as the ratio between the effective magnetic moments of the s- and u-quarks, μ s μ u =(0.57±0.03) have been calculated.

SAME AS FIG 2A, BUT KINEMATICAL RECONSTRUCTION ARE APPLIED. I.E. THE ENERGY- MOMENTUM CONSERVATIONS ARE USED TO IMPROVE THE ACCURACY OF PARTICLE ENERGIES AND ANGLES MEASURED IN DETECTOR.
We have examined charged multiplicities arising from p − p and p− p ̄ collisions over the range of center of mass energies, s , from 30 GeV to 1800 GeV. Results from Tevatron experiment E735 support the presence of double parton interactions. These processes can be seen to account for a large fraction of the increase in the non single diffraction inelastic cross section from energies of about 200 GeV to 1800 GeV.

Multiplicity distributions at centre-of-mass energy 300, 546 and 1000 GeV.
The yields and average transverse momenta of pions, kaons, and antiprotons produced at the Fermilab p¯p collider at s=300, 540, 1000, and 1800 GeV are presented and compared with data from the energies reached at the CERN collider. We also present data on the dependence of average transverse momentum 〈pt〉 and particle ratios as a function of charged particle density dNcdη; data for particle densities as high as six times the average value, corresponding to a Bjorken energy density 6 GeV/fm3, are reported. These data are relevant to the search for quark-gluon phase of QCD.

Antiproton-proton elastic scattering was measured at c.m.s. energies √s =546 and 1800 GeV in the range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.025<-t<0.29 GeV2. The data are well described by the exponential form ebt with a slope b=15.28±0.58 (16.98±0.25) GeV−2 at √s =546 (1800) GeV. The elastic scattering cross sections are, respectively, σel=12.87±0.30 and 19.70±0.85 mb.

Isolated photons, produced directly by a scattering process, have been observed in the UA1 experiment at the CERN p p collider at centre-of-mass energies √=546 GeV and √=630 GeV . Single and double photon differential cross sections have been determined and found to be consistent with the expectations of QCD.

Single diffraction dissociation was measured in the reaction p¯p→p¯X at the centre-of-mass energy √ s = 546 GeV. The mass M of the system X was deduced from the pseudorapidity distribution of the observed charged tracks. The cross section of single diffraction dissociation for M 2 /s⩽0.05isσ sd =9.4 ± 0.7 mb. Comparison to the ISR data shows that σ sd increases with energy less fast than the total and the elastic cross sections.

The inclusive jet cross section has been measured in the UA1 experiment at the CERN p p Collider at centre-of-mass energies √ s = 546 GeV and √ s = 630 eV. The cross sections are found to be consistent with QCD predictions, The observed change in the cross section with the centre-of-mass energy √ s is accounted for in terms of x T scaling.
