Coherent photoproduction of vector mesons ρ0, ω, φ, and ρ′ on deuterium was studied using the SLAC 82-in. bubble chamber exposed to linearly polarized photons at 5.5 GeV. The reaction channel γd→π+π−d was studied in detail. Nine independent density-matrix parameters have been determined from the ρ0 decay distribution. ρ production in this channel was found to proceed almost completely through natural-parity exchange for |t|≤0.25 GeV2 and conserve s-channel c.m. helicity for |t|≤0.15 GeV2. A measurement of differential cross section for this channel has been made.

We present measurements for the baryon-exchange reaction π − p→ Λ K 0 at 5 GeV/ c over the range − u <2(GeV/ c ) 2 . The differential cross section is obtained from events produced on a liquid hydrogen target. These data are combined with events produced on a butanol polarized target and the parameters P , A , and R are then determined from an analysis of the decay angular distribution of the forward-going Λ. From our data it is possible to determine the magnitudes and the relative phase of the two invariant amplitudes A ′ and B . The consequences for the ratio B / A ′ are discussed in detail.

The total and differential cross sections of the K¯0p→Λπ+ and K¯0p→∑0π+ reactions have been measured in the centre-of-mass energy range of l.5 to 2.3 GeV. Using our K¯0p→∑0π+ data as well as available cross-section data of isospin related channels, we have calculated the total I=0K¯N→∑π cross section as function of energy. The results are compared with predictions obtained from K¯N phase-shift analyses.

We present results on three reactions involving neutral final states which were studied in a magnet spark chamber system. These results are: (a) differential cross section with high statistics for K − p → K 0 n at 5 GeV /c (24 000 events) and at 8 GeV/ c (11 000 events) for t′ <2.0 (GeV/ c ) 2 ; (b) differential cross section and polarization for K − p → Λπ 0 (backward peak) at 5 GeV/ c for u ′ < 1.4 GeV/ c ) 2 ; and (c) differential cross section for K − p → K 0 Δ 0 (1232) at 5 GeV /c for t′ < 1.2 ( GeV /c) 2 . We compare our results with existing data and draw some phenomenological conclusions.

We present data on K − p reactions leading to the final states K 0 n , π 0 Λ, ηΛ, η'Λ, π − Σ + , K 0 Δ 0 (1230), and π − Σ + (1385) from a bubble chamber experiment at 14.3 GeV/ c K − lab momentum. Total and differential cross sections, Λ and Σ ∓ polarisations in π 0 Λ and π − Σ + final states as well as the Σ + (1385) density matrix elements are given.

We have measured the differential cross sections for K − p→ Σ + π − and K − p→ Σ − π + scattering, and the polarization distribution of the Σ + in the first reaction, at K − lab momenta of 3.13 and 3.30 GeV/ c . Our K − p→ Σ + π − cross sections are at least 40% larger than interpolations between measurements at nearby momenta. A comparison using isospin conservation of K − p →Σ + π − , K − p →Σ − π + , and K 0 p → Σ 0 π + cross sections favors our results. The K − p→ Σ + π − differential cross sections have about the same shape and are about twice as large as corresponding K − p→ Λπ 0 differential cross sections across the whole forward region. We discuss the results briefly with reference to simple exchange models.

The photoproduction of ρ0 and ρ− mesons has been studied at 3 GeV in the reactions γd→dπ±π−, γd→psnπ+π−, and γd→pspπ−π0. For ρ0 and ρ− production in these reactions we present the total and differential cross sections, the decay angular distributions, and the spin density matrix elements. The photoproduction of the ρ0 is found to be consistent with s-channel helicity conservation and is dominated by natural-parity exchange. The ρ− meson production has approximately equal natural- and unnatural-parity-exchange contributions. The unnatural-parity-exchange contribution is consistent with one-pion exchange and is used to estimate the value of Γρπγ.

We present differential cross sections and the Σ + polarization for the reactions K − p → π ∓ Σ ± using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment at 4.2 GeV/ c incident momentum. The statistical level allows a detailed analysis of these reactions over the whole t range. Several significant structures are observed. Comparisons are made with SU(3)-related reactions; for backward production of π − Σ + such a comparison shows good evidence for Δ exchange. The exotic forward peak in K − p → π + Σ − is definitely confirmed.

We present the results of a formation experiment for the reactions K±p→Σ±π± in the c.m.s. energy between 2200 and 2436 MeV with a total statistics of 10 ev/μb. A partial-wave analysis including these new data gives evidence for the existence of three resonances in theD15,G19 andH09 states and confirms the existence of anF05 state.
