The production of $\Upsilon$ mesons in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt=7$ and $8\,\mathrm{TeV}$ is studied with the LHCb detector using data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ and $2\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ respectively. The production cross-sections and ratios of cross-sections are measured as functions of the meson transverse momentum $p_T$ and rapidity $y$, for $p_T<30\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$} and $2.0<y<4.5$.

The inclusive production of D*+- mesons in photon-photon collisions has been measured using the OPAL detector at LEP at e+e- centre-of-mass energies of 183 and 189GeV. The D* mesons are reconstructed in their decay to D0pi+ with the D0 observed in the two decay modes Kpi+ and Kpi+pi-pi+. After background subtraction, 100.4+-12.6(stat) D*+- mesons have been selected in events without observed scattered beam electron ("anti-tagged") and 29.8+-5.9 (stat) D*+- mesons in events where one beam electron is scattered into the detector ("single-tagged"). Direct and single-resolved events are studied separately. Differential cross-sections as functions of the D* transverse momentum p_t and pseudorapidity \eta are presented in the kinematic region 2<p_t<12GeV and \eta<1.5. They are compared to next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations. The total cross-section for the process (e+e- to e+e-ccbar), where the charm quarks are produced in the collision of two quasi-real photons, is measured to be 842+-97(stat)+-75(syst)+-196(extrapolation)pb. A first measurement of the charm structure function F2 of the photon is performed in the kinematic range 0.0014<x<0.87 and 5<Q^2<100 GeV^2, and the result is compared to a NLO perturbative QCD calculation.

CONTINUUM MUONS ORIGINATE MAINLY FROM VECTOR MESON DECAYS, SEMI-LEPTONIC DECAYS OF D DBAR PAIRS AND FROM DRELL-YAN MECHANISM.

Dimuon production m p-U, O-U and S-U collisions has been studied at 200 GeV/N. It is observed that 〈 p T 〉 and 〈 p 2 T 〉 of the J / Ψ transverse momentum distributions increase with the transverse energy of the ion induced reactions. Such a marked behaviour is not seen for muon pairs of the continuum.

We measure the Drell-Yan differential cross section d2σdMdy||y|<1 over the mass range 11<M<150 GeV/c2 using dielectron and dimuon data from p¯p collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=1.8 TeV. Our results show the 1M3 dependence that is expected from the naive Drell-Yan model. In comparison to the predictions of recent QCD calculations we find our data favor those parton distribution functions with the largest quark contributions in the x interval 0.006 to 0.03.

Inclusive baryon-antibaryon pair production was studied in two-photon events which were collected at the e+e− collider TRISTAN, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 303 pbt?1. Correlations between a baryon and an antibaryon were studied for their flavors (p or Λ) and their momentum vectors. The experimental results were compared with the expectations from a jet-fragmentation Monte Carlo simulation. We have found that although the ratios of the cross sections of different baryon-flavor combinations are consistent with the Monte Carlo expectations, the cross section shows an excess over the Monte Carlo expectation in a low invariant-mass region of final-state particles at large angles, that indicates a significant contribution from higher-order QCD or non-perturbative effects. The experimental data show no narrow azimuthal-angle correlation, which is expected from a jet-fragmentation Monte Carlo. A search for exclusive Λ pair production has also been made. We have no candidates and have obtained the upper limit for the cross section.
Topological cross section for events in anti-tagged two photon processes.
Ratios of cross sections. Here 'p' includes the protons from the decay of any hadrons, except for lambdas. 'lambda' includes all decay products.
Upper limits (95% CL) assuming shape of the W dependence is W**(-12)(BETA*(LAMBDA)) where BETA*(LAMBDA) is the velocity of the LAMBDA in the c.m. frame of the gamma-gamma.
The inclusive cross section for the production of charmed D∗± mesons in two-photon processes is measured with the AMY detector at the TRISTAN e+e− collider. D∗± mesons are identified from the distribution of charged-particle transverse momenta relative to the jet axis. A data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 176 pb−1 at a center-of-mass energy of 58 GeV is used to determine a cross section σ(e+e− → e+e−D∗±X) = 270 ± 49(stat) ± 38(syst) pb. The results are compared with theoretical expectations based on the Vector Meson Dominance, direct quark-parton model, and resolved photon processes.

Using the VENUS detector at TRISTAN we have investigated the charm-quark production by detecting D*+ - mesons in the two-photon process of e+et - collisions. The study has confirmed that the charm-quark production rate is larger than that predicted from direct cc̅ production alone. The distribution of the transverse momentum of the D*+ t- mesons and the forward energy flow associated with the D*+ - production suggest that the main part of the observed excess comes from the contribution of a resolved photon process.

We have measured the inclusive $D~{*\pm}$ production cross section in a two-photon collision at the TRISTAN $e~+e~-$ collider. The mean $\sqrt{s}$ of the collider was 57.16 GeV and the integrated luminosity was 150 $pb~{-1}$. The differential cross section ($d\sigma(D~{*\pm})/dP_T$) was obtained in the $P_T$ range between 1.6 and 6.6 GeV and compared with theoretical predictions, such as those involving direct and resolved photon processes.
