The asymmetry ratio for the process γ + p → n + π + by linearly polarized γ rays are reported for E γ = 200 − 400 MeV and for θ (production angle of π in the c.m. system) = 90°. The experimental results are compared with some recent theoretical predictions.

Mit einem magnetischen Spektrometer wurde der differentielle Wirkungsquerschnitt fiir die Reaktion 7 + P = ~+ + n bei Photonenergien zwischell 200 und 260 MeV gemessell. Die kinetischen Variablell wurdeI1 dabei so gew~hlt, dag der all das Meson tibertragene Impuls jeweils dem Weft an der Produktionsschwelle gleich ist. Bisher vermutete Abweichungen yon der Theorie kollnten nicht bestSMgt werden.

POSITIVE PION PRODUCTION BY POLARIZED BREMSSTRAHLUNG

By selecting bremsstrahlung produced in a 0.003-in. aluminum radiator at a small angle from the original electron direction, a beam of polarized bremsstrahlung has been obtained from the Stanford linear accelerator. The variation of the polarization and intensity with angle has been studied and compared with theoretical predictions. The polarized beam has been used to study π+-meson production at 90° c.m. angle and photon energies of 242, 296, 337, and 376 Mev. The ratio of meson production along and at right angles to the electric field vector has been measured and compared with the values predicted by the relativistic dispersion relation.

A Search for Delta I = 2 Electromagnetic Currents in Pion Photoproduction

Differential cross sections for the reactions γp→π0p, π+n and γn→π−p, π0n were measured in a single experiment using tagged photons in the energy region 240-450 MeV incident on H21 and H22 targets. Results of the measurements of the ratios π0nπ0p and π−pπ+n are presented. The ratio of isotensor to isovector amplitude is found to be 0.00±0.02.
