Electron-proton elastic scattering cross sections have been measured at squared four-momentum transfers q 2 of 0.67, 1.00, 1.17, 1.50, 1.75, 2.33 and 3.00 (GeV/ c ) 2 and Electron scattering angles θ e between 10° and 20° and at about 86° in the laboratory. The proton electromagnetic form factors G E p and G M p were determined. The results indicate that G E p ( q 2 ) decreases faster with increasing q 2 than G M p ( q 2 ). Quasi-elastic electron-deuteron cross sections have been determined at values of q 2 = 0.39, 0.565, 0.78, 1.0 and 1.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 and scattering angles between 10° and 12°. At q 2 = 0.565 (GeV/ c 2 data have also been taken with θ e = 35° and at q 2 = 1.0 and 1.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 with θ e = 86°. Electron-proton as well as electron-neutron scattering cross sections have been deduced by the ratio method. The theoretical uncertainties of this procedure are shown to be small by comparison of the bound with the free proton cross sections. The magnetic form factor of the neutron G M n derived from the data is consistent with the scaling law. The charge form factor of the neutron is found to be small.

Electroproduction of exclusive $\phi$ vector mesons has been studied with the CLAS detector in the kinematical range $1.6\leq Q^2\leq 3.8$ GeV$^{2}$, $0.0\leq t^{\prime}\leq 3.6$ GeV$^{2}$, and $2.0\leq W\leq 3.0$ GeV. The scaling exponent for the total cross section as $1/(Q^2+M_{\phi}^2)^n$ was determined to be $n=2.49\pm 0.33$. The slope of the four-momentum transfer $t'$ distribution is $b_{\phi}=0.98 \pm 0.17$ GeV$^{-2}$. The data are consistent with the assumption of s-channel helicity conservation (SCHC). Under this assumption, we determine the ratio of longitudinal to transverse cross sections to be $R=0.86 \pm 0.24$. A 2-gluon exchange model is able to reproduce the main features of the data.

We studied the exclusive reaction e p --> e' p' phi using the phi --> K^+ K^- decay mode. The data were collected using a 4.2 GeV incident electron beam and the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. Our experiment covers the range in Q^2 from 0.7 to 2.2 GeV^2, and W from 2.0 to 2.6 GeV. Taken together with all previous data, we find a consistent picture of phi production on the proton. Our measurement shows the expected decrease of the t-slope with the vector meson formation time c Delta tau below 2 fm. At = 0.6 fm, we measure b_phi = 2.27 +- 0.42 GeV^-2. The cross section dependence on W as W^{0.2+-0.1} at Q^2 = 1.3 GeV^2 was determined by comparison with phi production at HERA after correcting for threshold effects. This is the same dependence as observed in photoproduction.

Electron-proton elastic scattering cross sections have been measured at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center at four-momentum transfers squared (q 2 ) of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5and 3.75 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The angular distributions at q 2 = 2.5 and 3.75 (GeV/ c ) 2 are sufficient to provide values of the ratio G E / G M independent of the results from other laboratories. Our results are compatible with scaling, G E (q 2 ) = G M (q 2 )/ μ , within the experimental errors.

New data for the reaction π+p→η0Δ++ are presented at 11 momenta between 1.28 and 2.67 GeV/c. Existing data at higher momenta are included in an analysis of the reaction in terms of A2 exchange. An effective trajectory parametrization of the data above 2 GeV/c is shown to describe adequately those data, although it yields an effective trajectory steeper than expected from ρ−A2 exchange degeneracy. An existing Regge-pole model is refitted to the data above 2 GeV/c with generally satisfactory results. Both the effective trajectory parametrization and the Regge model are extrapolated to the lower-momenta data and shown to give remarkably good agreement with the data. Evidence is presented against a dominant contribution to the lower-momenta data from s-channel resonances.

In a study of the production mechanism of quasi-two-body final states at the five incident π+ momenta 2.95, 3.2, 3.5, 3.75, and 4.08 GeV/c, approximately 40 000 events with four outgoing charged particles were investigated. The cross sections for the processes π+p→N*++ρ, π+p→N*++ω, π+p→N*++η, and π+p→N*++f have been measured as a function of the pion energy. The differential cross sections and the decay density-matrix elements are discussed in terms of one-meson-exchange models [with absorption (OPEA) and with form factor (OPEW)] and Regge models. For the N*++ρ and the N*++ω reactions, the joint-decay matrix elements are calculated. The formation of N*(2850) in the direct channel is also investigated.

Cross sections for ρ0 electroproduction measured in a streamer-chamber experiment are separated into elastic (ep→epρ0) and inelastic production channels. For the elastic channel, the total cross section and t dependence are presented. For the inelastic channel (1σ)dσdz, (1σ)dσdpT2, and a density matrix element are shown and compared to quark-parton-model predictions. The ratio of ρ0 to direct π0 production is found to be 2.0±0.5±0.3, where the first error is statistical, and the second error is systematic.

This paper reports the results of an experiment measuring the parameters of various electroproduction reactions for a range in the electroproduction variables 0.7<Q2<4 GeV2 and 2<W2<16 GeV2. This report is limited to nondiffractive exclusive channels, with detailed results regarding the πΔ final states, statistically limited results for KΛ final states, and upper limits on the production of a number of event topologies containing a single unseen neutral particle.

We have extended our survey of the reaction γ+p→p+e++e− by collecting 20 000 additional e+e− pairs in the invariant-mass region 900<m<1500 MeV. The measured interference pattern shows two enhancements at mass values of 1097 and 1266 MeV. The parameters of those structure, when interpreted as vector mesons in the VDM framework, are given.

We have studied photoproduction using a 1 m streamer chamber at DESY and a tagged photon beam with an energy range of 1.6 GeV < E γ < 6.3 GeV. We analysed approximately 30 000 events and report topological, channel and resonance production cross sections for a large number of reactions with three and five outgoing charged particles.
