Experimental results are presented for the pp elastic-scattering single spin observable Aoono=Aooon=AN=P, or the analyzing power, at 19 beam kinetic energies between 1795 and 2235 MeV. The typical c.m. angular range is 60–100°. The measurements were performed at Saturne II with a vertically polarized beam and target (transverse to the beam direction and scattering plane), a magnetic spectrometer and a recoil detector, both instrumented with multiwire proportional chambers, and beam polarimeters.

A polarized proton beam extracted from SATURNE II was scattered on an unpolarized CH 2 target. The angular distribution of the beam analyzing power A oono was measured at large angles from 1.98 to 2.8 GeV and at 0.80 GeV nominal beam kinetic energy. The same observable was determined at the fixed mean laboratory angle of 13.9° in the same energy range. Both measurements are by-products of an experiment measuring the spin correlation parameter A oon .

We present a measurement of the polarization of Antilambda hyperons produced in nu_mu charged current interactions. The full data sample from the NOMAD experiment has been analyzed using the same V0 identification procedure and analysis method reported in a previous paper for the case of Lambda hyperons. The Antilambda polarization has been measured for the first time in a neutrino experiment. The polarization vector is found to be compatible with zero.

The large-angle analyzing power A in proton-neutron elastic scattering at 2, 3, and 6 GeV/c with use of the polarized proton beam at the Argonne zero-gradient synchrotron and a liquid deuterium target have been measured. The measurements, the first at high energy, show that A is large (20-40%) and negative over much of the angular range and shows no decrease with incident energy, unlike the earlier data at smaller angles.

A Study of the Reactions anti-K0 p ---> Lambda pi+ and anti-K0 p ---> Sigma0 pi+ from 1-GeV/c to 12-GeV/c

Cross sections, differential cross sections, and hyperon polarization results are presented for the reactions K¯0p→Λπ+ and K¯0p→Σ0π+ in the momentum interval 1 to 12 GeV/c. Emphasis is placed on the comparison of Λ and Σ channels, and on the momentum dependences of the data. In particular, the Λ polarization data are consistent with being independent of energy above 2 GeV/c; and the slopes of the forward cross sections are found to increase toward the slope values for the line-reversed reactions πp→K(Λ,Σ) as energy increases.

We measured d σ d t(90° cm ) for ↑+ p ↑→ p + p from 1.75 to 5.5 GeV/ c , using the Argonne zero-gradient synchrotron 70% polarized proton beam and a 70% polarized proton target. We found that the spin-spin correlation parameter. A nn , equals 60% at low energy, then drops sharply to about 10% near 3.5 GeV/ c , and remains constant up to 5.5 GeV/ c .

Measurement of polarization pn pi- p ---> pi0 n at 3.5 and 5.0 gev/c

Inspire Record 84552 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21395

The polarization parameter P(t) for the reaction π−p→π0n has been measured at 3.5 and 5.0 GeV/c over the range 0.2<~−t<~1.8 (GeV/c)2. The two γ rays from the π0 decay were detected in a large lead-glass hodoscope. The results agree with the positive polarization values found in earlier Argonne National Laboratory data at −t<0.35 (GeV/c)2. P(t) drops to a small value near t=−0.6 (GeV/c)2 and remains the same out to t=−1.8 (GeV/c)2.

Cross-Sections and Polarizations in the Reactions pi- p --> Lambda K0 and pi- p --> Lambda K* (890) Near the Backward Direction, from 3-GeV/c to 6-GeV/c

We have measured the differential cross sections and Λ polarizations in the reactions π−p→ΛK0 and π−p→ΛK*0 (890) near the backward direction, at 3, 4, 5, and 6 GeV/c. Data equal to several times the world's total sample above 2 GeV/c were recorded. Both reactions are characterized by cross sections falling rapidly with beam momentum, and by large positive Λ polarizations for u′ between 0.0 and 0.6 GeV2. Analysis of π−p→ΛK0 yields an effective Regge trajectory consistent with antishrinkage of the backward peak. Separation into amplitudes of definite-parity-naturality exchange shows the reaction to be dominated by unnatural-parity exchange. The energy behavior of this exchange is, however, not consistent with a single linear baryon Regge trajectory or exchange-degenerate pair of trajectories. An apparent normalization discrepancy between data on π−p→ΛK0 of a CERN-ETH group and other high-statistics data including that of this experiment is discussed.

Simultaneous Measurement of the Spin Parameters p and c(n n) in p p Elastic Scattering at 2, 3, 4, and 6-GeV/c

Phys.Rev.D 16 (1977) 2016-2026, 1977.
Inspire Record 126510 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24496

Using the polarized-beam facility at Argonne National Laboratory and a polarized proton target, simultaneous measurements of the spin parameter P and the spin correlation term CNN were made. Data were obtained and analyzed at beam momenta of 2, 3, 4, and 6 GeV/c in the momentum-transfer-squared interval 0.1≤|t|≤2.8 (GeV/c)2. A preliminary phase-shift analysis of the 2- and 3-GeV/c data is discussed and a comparison with predictions of a particular Regge-pole model at all four energies is made.
