Measurement of the polarization parameter in n p charge-exchange scattering from 2 to 12 gev/c

We have measured the polarization parameter in neuton-proton charge-exchange scattering for incident neutron momenta of 2-12 GeVc and 0.01<~|t|<~1.0 (GeVc)2. Results based on 300 000 events show a negative polarization whose magnitude increases monotonically with |t| approaching 60% for |t|∼0.6 and which has little energy dependence.

Measurement of Differential Cross-Section and Polarization in the Backward Peak of the Reactions pi- p --> Lambda K0 and pi- p --> Lambda K* (890) at 8-GeV/c

Differential cross sections and polarizations have been measured for the backward peaks in the reactions π − p →Λ K 0 and π − p →Λ K ∗ (890) at 8 GeV/c. The experiment was performed with a liquid hydrogen target at the ω spectrometer. The cross sections for u′>−2 ( GeV /c) 2 are 0.27 ± 0.03 μ b for π − p →Λ+ K 0 and 0.55±0.07 μ b for π − p →Λ K ∗0 . Large positive Λ polarization was observed in both reactions for u ′>−0.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The dominant production mechanism was found to be unnatural baryon exchange.

Measurements of Polarization and Spin Rotation in Proton Proton Elastic Scattering at 3.83-GeV/c

The polarization P in proton-proton elastic scattering has been measured at 3.83 GeV/ c for 0.35 ⩽ | t | ⩽ 3.0 (GeV/ c ) 2 , i.e. 29° ⩽ θ c.m. ⩽ 93°. The polarization shows a minimum at − ⋍ 1.0 ( GeV /c) 2 followed by a maximum at −⋍1.5 ( GeV /c) 2 . At the same energy the spin rotation parameter R has been measured in the interval 0.18 ⩽ | t | ⩽ 0.57 (GeV/ c ) 2 . Comparison with the results at 6.0 and 15.75 GeV/ c shows a similar t -dependence and the same average value at all three energies.

A Study of the Final States anti-K0 n, Lambda pi0 and anti-K0 Delta0 in K- p Interactions at 5-GeV/c and 8-GeV/c

We present results on three reactions involving neutral final states which were studied in a magnet spark chamber system. These results are: (a) differential cross section with high statistics for K − p → K 0 n at 5 GeV /c (24 000 events) and at 8 GeV/ c (11 000 events) for t′ <2.0 (GeV/ c ) 2 ; (b) differential cross section and polarization for K − p → Λπ 0 (backward peak) at 5 GeV/ c for u ′ < 1.4 GeV/ c ) 2 ; and (c) differential cross section for K − p → K 0 Δ 0 (1232) at 5 GeV /c for t′ < 1.2 ( GeV /c) 2 . We compare our results with existing data and draw some phenomenological conclusions.

Inclusive Production of $K^0_S$, $\Lambda$ and $\bar{\Lambda}$ in $\bar{p} p$ Interactions at 3.6-{GeV}/$c$

We present a study of the inclusive reactions p p → K S 0 X, ΛX and Λ X at 3.6 GeV/ c based on 35.4 events/μb. The cross sections are presented in terms of the Feynman variable, rapidity and the transverse momentum. The absolute value of the Λ polarization is found to increase with increasing p T of Λ. A comparison of the inclusive productions of K S 0 in p p and e + e − is presented.
