The forward-backward asymmetries of$$e^ + e^ - \to Z^0 \to b\bar b and e^ + e^ - \to Z^0 \to c\bar c$$
Measurement of the asymmetry in b-quark production on the Z0 peak using a two parameter fit, neglecting the effects of B0-BBAR0 mixing.
Measurement of the asymmetry in b-quark production on the Z0 peak using a two parameter fit and correcting for B0-BBAR0 mixing. The second systematic error is due to the uncertainty of the mixing factor.
Measurement of the asymmetry in c-quark production on the Z0 peak using a two parameter fit.
The dijet invariant mass distribution has been measured in the region between 140 and 1000 GeV/c2, in 1.8 TeV p p¯ collisions. Data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab show agreement with QCD calculations. A limit on quark compositeness of Λc>1.3 TeV is obtained. Axigluons with masses between 240 and 640 GeV/c2 are excluded at 95% C.L. if we assume ten open decay channels. Model-independent limits on the production of heavy particles decaying into two jets are also presented.

We report the full reconstruction of χc mesons through the decay chain χc→J/ψ γ, J/ψ→μ+μ−, using data obtained at the Collider Detector at Fermilab in 2.6±0.2 pb−1 of p¯p collisions at √s =1.8 TeV. This exclusive χc sample is used to measure the χc-meson production cross section times branching fractions. We obtain σ×B=3.2±0.4(stat)−1.1+1.2(syst) nb for χc mesons decaying to J/ψ with pT>6.0 GeV/c and pseudorapidity ‖η‖<0.5. From this and the inclusive J/ψ cross section we calculate the inclusive b-quark cross section to be 12.0±4.5 μb for pTb>8.5 GeV/c and ‖yb‖<1.

This determination of the b-quark cross section uses an earlier CDF measurement of the pbar p --> J/PSI X cross section of 6.88 +- 1.11 nb. See Abe et al. PRL 69, 3704.
We present a measurement of the b-quark cross section in 1.8 TeV p-p¯ collisions recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab using muonic b-quark decays. In the central rapidity region (‖yb‖<1.0), the cross section is 295±21±75 nb (59±14±15 nb) for pTb>21 GeV/c (29 GeV/c). Comparisons are made to previous measurements and next-to-leading order QCD calculations.

We have determined the strong coupling αs from measurements of jet rates in hadronic decays of Z0 bosons collected by the SLD experiment at SLAC. Using six collinear and infrared safe jet algorithms we compared our data with the predictions of QCD calculated up to second order in perturbation theory, and also with resummed calculations. We find αs(MZ2)=0.118±0.002(stat)±0.003(syst)±0.010(theory), where the dominant uncertainty is from uncalculated higher order contributions.
The second systematic error comes from the theoretical uncertainties.
We present a measurement of the polarization of Antilambda hyperons produced in nu_mu charged current interactions. The full data sample from the NOMAD experiment has been analyzed using the same V0 identification procedure and analysis method reported in a previous paper for the case of Lambda hyperons. The Antilambda polarization has been measured for the first time in a neutrino experiment. The polarization vector is found to be compatible with zero.

The double strangeness production has been observed in two final states of annihilation of antiprotons at momentum less than 0.9 GeV/ c on Xe nuclei: K + K + X (8 events) and K + K 0 ΛX (6 events). The probabilities of the reaction p Xe → K + K + X vary from 2 · 10 −5 (at rest) up to 7 · 10 −5 (in flight). The reaction p Xe → K + K 0 ΛX is observed only in flight with probability 3 · 10 −4 . The properties of the observed reactions are similar to those resulting from the cascade process with production of Ξ hyperon: p N → K ∗ −K ∗ , K ∗ → Kπ, −K ∗ N → ΞK, ΞN → ΛΛ . The new upper limit on the production probability of the stable H ( S = −2) dibaryon in the reaction Xe → K + K + H(H → Σ − p)X was obtained to be < 2 · 10 − (90% C . L .).

A measurement of the proton structure function F 2 ( x , Q 2 ) is presented with about 1000 neutral current deep inelastic scattering events for Bjorken x in the range x ⋍ 10 −2 – 10 −4 and Q 2 > 5 GeV 2 . The measurement is based on an integrated luminosity of 22.5 nb −1 recorded by the H1 detector in the first year of HERA operation. The structure function F 2 ( x , Q 2 ) shows a significant rise with decreasing x .

We have studied the production of charged D ∗ mesons in e + e − annihilation at an average center-of-mass energy of 58.0 GeV. Charged D ∗ mesons were identified using two independent methods; the mass-difference method and the detection of the low transverse-momentum pion. The forward-backward asymmetry of the charm quark production was measured to be A c = −0.61±0.13(stat.)±0.08(syst.). The cross section of inclusive D ∗ production was found to be σ(e + e − →D ∗ ± +X) = 24.5 ± 5.3 ( stat. )±3.0( syst. ) pb. If we assume the standard model prediction for the charm quark production, we obtain the branching ratio for the charm quark to produce a charged D ∗ meson to be Br (c→D ∗+ + X) = (22±5( stat. )±3( syst. ))% .

We have investigated the properties of jet production in almost real γγ collisions at √ s =58 GeV with the TOPAZ detector at the TRISTAN e + e − collider. The data were analyzed with a jet-clustering method based on a cone algorithm. The jet rate shows evidence for a hard scattering effect of the hadronic constituents of a photon (resolved photon processes). We have also observed a substantial energy flow in the small-angle region, which is additional evidence for resolved photon processes. We present the transverse momentum dependence of the inclusive jet and two-jet cross sections and compare them with different model predictions.
