The total cross section and the differential cross sections of the reactions π + d →π + d (elastic scattering) →π + pn (inelastic scattering) →π 0 pp (charge exchange scattering) →γ pp (radiative absorption) → pp , (non-radiative absorption) have been measured using 85 000 pictures of 290 MeV/ c positive pions in the 38 cm Princeton-Pennsylvania bubble chamber. The elastic, inelastic and charge exchange scattering data are more complete than any previous data in this energy range.

Phys.Rev.D 9 (1974) 3015-3028, 1974.
Inspire Record 94287 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21980

The reactions of positive pions with protons yielding four charged particles and one or more neutrals have been studied, especially the reaction π+p→Δ++ω0→pπ+π+π−π0. The results presented in this paper were obtained from a 100 000-picture exposure of the Argonne-MURA 30-in. liquid hydrogen bubble chamber, with a beam of incident pions of 4.09−GeVc momentum. Comparisons have been made with corresponding results of other experiments at various incident beam momenta, and with the predictions of some theoretical models of the π+p interaction.

Interactions of neutral k mesons in hydrogen

Meisner, G.W. ; Crawford, F.S. ;
Phys.Rev.D 3 (1971) 2553-2560, 1971.
Inspire Record 67874 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23681

The reaction π−+p→Λ+K0 in the 72-in. hydrogen chamber was used to produce 7220 K0 mesons associated with a visible decay Λ→p+π−. The time dependence and absolute yield of the subsequent strong interactions of K0 and K0 in hydrogen were used to determine all the parameters of the neutral K system, without the assumption of CPT invariance or other assumptions about the weak interactions of neutral K's. From the time distribution of 59 events of the type K¯0+p→hyperon, we find the magnitude of the KS0−KL0 mass difference. We then determine the mixing parameters p, q, p′, q′ of the neutral K system by means of the time dependence and absolute yield of 11 charge-exchange events, K0+p→K++n, and the absolute yield of 49 two-body interactions, K¯0+p→hyperon+pion. The results are consistent with CPT invariance and with values of the mixing parameters determined by means of weak interactions. We find the Biswas ratio R≡σ(KLp→KSp)σ(KLp→hyperon) to be R=0.41±0.13 averaged over KL momenta from about 200 to 600 MeVc. This agrees with solution I of Kim and with the results of Kadyk et al. Our absolute yields for K¯0+p→hyperon+pion are in good agreement with the predictions of charge independence and the measured rates for K−+p→hyperon+pion. For the front-back asymmetry of the Λ in K¯0+p→Λ+π+, we find (F−B)(F+B)=−0.48±0.18, indicating that the P wave cannot be neglected relative to the S wave in our momentum range.

Interactions of pi+ Mesons with Protons at 2.08 BeVc

Inspire Record 50875 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26717

Interactions of 2.08−BeVc positive pions with protons have been studied using the 20-in. hydrogen bubble chamber and the alternating gradient synchrotron at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Using 3000 elastic and 8000 inelastic events, the partial cross sections for elastic scattering and for meson production have been measured. The ρ+, ρ0, ω0, and η0 resonances are produced strongly and emerge predominantly in the forward direction in the center-of-mass system, suggesting a peripheral mechanism for their production. The possibility of explaining these reactions by specific particle-exchange models is investigated. More than 75% of the ρ0, ω0, and η0 are produced with the N33* (1238) isobar. The N* (1688) is produced in about one-third of the π+π+N final states. Cross sections for production of ρ+p, π+pω, N33*ω, π+pη, N33*η, π+pρ0, N33*ρ0, N15*π+, and N33*π0, are given. A1, B, φ, and X mesons are not observed.

Interactions of relativistic Li-6 nuclei with photoemulsion nuclei.

Inelastic interactions of nuclei accelerated to a momentum of 4.5 GeV/$c$ per projectile nucleon with photoemulsion nuclei have been investigated. The main features of these interactions - mean ranges of $^6$Li nuclei, mean multiplicities of secondaries, the isotopic composition of fragments, fragmentation channels, and the mean transverse momenta of projectile fragments - have been measured. The probability of the charge-exchange reaction featuring lithium nuclei has been determined. The results obtained for the $^6$Li nucleus have been compared with data for other nuclei. The observed features of $^6$Li interactions with other nuclei indicate that the $^6$Li structure in the form of the loosely bound system consisting of an $\alpha$-particle and a deuteron cluster clearly manifests itself in these interactions. Events resulting in the coherent dissociation of $^6$Li nuclei into $^4$He+$d$, $^3$He+$t$, and $t+d+p$ and involving low-lying excitations of $^6$Li have been observed.

Interference between $K_L \to \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $K_S \to \pi^+ \pi^-$ behind a copper regenerator

Phys.Lett.B 30 (1969) 204-208, 1969.

The interference between K L → π + π - and K S → π + π - behind a copper regenerator has been observed in a high statistics experiment. The modulus and the argument of the complex ratio ϱ ( p )/ η +- , where ϱ ( p ) is the regeneration amplitude and η +- = A ( K L → π + π - )/ A (K S → π + π - ) has been measured over the momentum interval from 2.0 GeV/ c to 6.0 GeV/ c . The phase of η +- as deduced from this measurement and from the optical model value of arg [ ϱ ( p )] is 49.3° ± 6.8°. The K L K S mass difference has been found to be Δm/ h ̵ = (0.555 ± 0.020) × 10 10 sec −1 .

Interference between (p,f0 ...) and (rho0,b0,...) exchanges in pion diffraction dissociation at 16 gev/c

It is found in the reactions π ± p →( π ± π + π − )p, believed to be dominated by diffraction dissociation, that the d σ d t′ distributions show a “cross-over” effect at t ′ ≈ 0.15, similar to the effect observed in elastic scattering. This gives evidence for the interference of ( ϱ 0 , B 0 ,…)-exchanges with ( P , f 0 , …) -exchanges in pion diffraction dissociation reactions. No such evidence is found for baryon dissociation, π ± p → π ± (p π + π − ), at the same energy.
