The polarization in K + n↑ → K 0 p has been measured at 6 and 12 GeV/ c in the interval 0.1 < |t| < 1.0 using a polarized deuteron target. The results are compared to predictions from SU(3), exchange degeneracy (EXD) and line reserval, and from various phenomenological models.

The polarization in π + p → π + p and K + p → K + p has been measured at 6 and 12 GeV/ c in the four-momentum transfer interval 0.1 ⩽ | t | ⩽ 2.0 (GeV/ c ) 2 by scattering on protons of a polarized deuteron target. Comparison with existing results obtained with polarized proton targets shows good general agreement and no evidence for asymmetry effects due to the presence of the spectator neutron. We present a measurement of angular observables, $P_4'$, $P_5'$, $P_6'$, $P_8'$, in the decay $B^0 \to K^\ast(892)^0 \ell^+ \ell^-$, where $\ell^+\ell^-$ is either $e^+e^-$ or $\mu^+\mu^-$. The analysis is performed on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $711~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ containing $772\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar B$ pairs, collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider KEKB. Four angular observables, $P_{4,5,6,8}'$ are extracted in five bins of the invariant mass squared of the lepton system, $q^2$. We compare our results for $P_{4,5,6,8}'$ with Standard Model predictions including the $q^2$ region in which the LHCb collaboration reported the so-called $P_5'$ anomaly.

The considerable polarization of hyperons produced at high xF has been known for a long time and has been interpreted with various theoretical models in terms of the constituents' spin. Recently, the analyzing power in inclusive Λ0 hyperon production has also been measured using the 200GeV/c Fermilab polarized proton beam. The covered kinematic range is 0.2≤xF≤1.0 and 0.1≤pT≤1.5GeV/c. The data indicate a negative asymmetry at large xF and moderate pT. These results can further test the current ideas on the underlying mechanisms for hyperon polarization.

The polarization parameter P has been measured for elastic π + p, K + p and pp scattering at 45 GeV/c. Four-momentum transfer ranges from −0.08 to −1.1 (GeV/) 2 for pp, and from −0.08 to −0.9 (GeV/) 2 for π + p and K + p. The energy dependence of the polarization P ( t ) in π + p and in K + p above 6 GeV/c incident momentum is compatible with interference between pomeron and Regge poles. On the other hand, the polarization in p p elastic scattering decreases faster than ordinary Regge model predictions. This result can be explained by interference between non flip and flip amplitudes of the pomeron, leading to negative values for the polarization.

We report final results on the polarization parameter P in elastic scattering of π − , K − and antiprotons at 40 GeV/ c incident momentum. The energy dependence of P (t) in π − p above 10 GeV/ c is well fitted by P (t) α s αR(t)-α P (t) where α R (t) are the effective Regge and Pomeron trajectories respectively. The data in K − p are compatible with exchange degeneracy. The results inp¯p show an important structure for |t|> 0.3 (GeV/c) 2 demonstrating the existence of a large helicity flip amplitude.

The reactionsπ−p→K0(890) Λ,K0(890)Σ0 andK0(890)Σ0 are studied at an incident momentum of 3.95 GeV/c using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment corresponding to ∼90 events/μb. The differential cross sections, density matrix elements of the vector meson and hyperon polarizations are presented. A transversity amplitude analysis is performed for each of the reactions. The results are compared with those obtained for the SU(3) related processesK−p→ϕΔ, ϕΣ0, ϕΣ0(1385) andϱ−Σ+(1385) and with predictions of the additive quark model and SU(6) sum rules.

Inclusive Λ production has been studied in K − p interactions at 8.25 GeV/ c using about 69 000 events; the total cross section is found to be 3.35 ± 0.20 mb. A comparison has been made with Σ 0 and Σ(1385) inclusive production. Their influence on the inclusive Λ production is discussed. The inclusive Λ cross section and polarization is interpreted in terms of the triple-Regge model. In the target fragmentation region an effective Regge trajectory is determined which lies closer to the K than to the K ∗ . In the beam fragmentation region the cross-section data indicate an effective Regge trajectory which corresponds to the nucleon, while the polarization data require additional Regge exchanges to be present.

The vector meson production, hypercharge exchange reactions K − p → ( φ , ω , ϱ ) Λ and ( φ , ϱ ) Σ 0 are studied at 4.2 GeV/ c incident momentum. The data come from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment with a sensitivity of ∼ 120 events/μb. Total and differential cross sections are presented. The vector meson density matrix elements and hyperon polarization are investigated as functions of momentum transfer. Amplitude analyses are performed for all five reactions. The results are compared with duality and quark model predictions, as well as used to test current ideas in two-body phenomenology.
